How to Prevent Tooth Decay in Our Little Ones

Prevent Tooth Decay

If you’ve ever had a toothache, you understand that it isn’t any fun. Unfortunately, some argue that tooth decay is becoming a bigger problem for the younger generation. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to help your children protect their oral health and prevent tooth decay. Arguably, the most important thing you can do is keep a good oral care schedule. Unfortunately, many children struggle to maintain a healthy oral routine. Please remember to remind your children to brush their teeth, especially when they start to age. You see, the number of young people suffering from tooth decay tends to rise dramatically after children are twelve. Sadly, some children are more prone to cavities than others are. Unfortunately, there’s little you can do to avoid this issue because it typically has to do with a child’s genetics. In other words, if a child’s parents are predisposed to cavities, the child probably will be as well.

Still, understanding the causes of gum disease does little to help you overcome these issues. To protect your child’s teeth, we recommend limiting their sugar intake. Please remember to consider the types of drink they specifically enjoy and be careful of beverages that are high in sugar.

You can also help your children, by setting a good example. Let them see you brush your own teeth frequently. This includes visiting your dentist often—and remembering to bring your child to our dentist when they are young. Similarly, teach your child proper brushing and flossing techniques. We also recommend teaching your child about why brushing their teeth is so important. With simple training, you can help your child establish good habits that can last well into adulthood.
